I had to redraw this picture several times because I lost the original in TWO separate HDD crashes. I don't trust them anymore, I've since switched to using SSDs.

Battle Kreaturez Illustories 02 – Falling Back

I actually drew this as a standalone a couple years ago, but since it came with a fairly long caption anyway I decided to give it some polish and make it an Illustory.

December Sabbatical

The holidays are just around the corner! I’ve noticed in previous years that readership is low during December; I guess nobody reads webcomics during the holidays. Going to take the opportunity to get caught up on comic pages and commissions and stuff. Updates will resume January 4th 2020. But fear not! I will still be posting content on my Patreon! And I’ll probably add some character bios and Kreature profiles too. So, keep an eye out for that.

A Brief Hiatus

With the most recent page, Chapter 05 has been concluded! Now that Chapter 05 is done, the comic is going to take a short, itty bitty break. I just need a couple weeks to get caught up on commissions and comic pages. Updates will resume on November 5th. In the meantime, if you’re starved for Battle Kreaturez content or just want to support my work, then contribute to my Patreon! I’ve got a good chunk of content uploaded there, including the very first Battle Kreaturez comic I ever drew, way back in 1999 when I was in Grade Eight! Your patronage would be highly appreciated!

An Explanation

Now that the comic is coming back proper, I feel my readers deserve an explanation for why I went on hiatus in the first place, and why the hiatus lasted so long. It all goes back to when I first started the comic. In the spring of 2015, I decided that I would launch my webcomic in the September of that year, to commemorate its 16th year of existence as a personal project. I intended to spend the summer working on a backlog so that I’d have plenty of pages in reserve before starting. Unfortunately the flash drive with all my artwork on it failed and I had a hell of a time recovering everything from it. The incident set me back and demoralized me, and I started with far fewer pages than I’d planned. The deck was stacked against me from the start. Being a webcomic artist is hard; one has to be a writer, editor, storyboarder, penciller, inker, background artist, colourist, publisher, promoter and web designer all at once. I’m basically doing the work of an entire small studio by myself for free. Keeping my head above water, combined with my anxiety and drama in my personal life, were a recipe for disaster. Once I finished Chapter 04, I figured that since my webcomic barely had any readers anyway I could afford to work at a leisurely pace on a much thicker backlog before starting the comic back up back up in earnest. That said, I’m happy to be back and I’m eager to see my readership return and grow.

Site Update 19

NextGen finally stopped breaking the Visual Editor. It’s much easier to update the Kreature Archive now. So, I uploaded a new Kreature: Amphisnake! I hope to keep updating the archive on a semi-regular basis from now on. The site needs SOME new content while I get my shit together with the backlog olol Also, I have a new digital art device: a Yiynova Slim! An official review will be pending, but I love it so far. My workflow has never been so smooth and satisfying! Laptop battery died, I’m basically tethered to the wall until I can get a new one.

Happy Anniversary

Oh god it’s already the webcomic’s second anniversary I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my readers! Thank you all for being so awesome and supportive. To celebrate the event I uploaded some of my crappy old art from when I was a kid to the art gallery. Check it out here!

Site Update 18

Time for a status update! The site’s been having, uh, technical difficulties. The visual editor has been malfunctioning and the only way it’ll work is if I disable my NextGEN plugin. The Art Gallery will be temporarily down until that’s fixed. Work on Chapter 05 is… well, it’s coming along! I downloaded Lazy Nezumi and it makes inking in Photoshop SO much more satisfying, and has a bunch of helpful tools that should help improve my workflow. I’ve also been in a pretty good mood lately and that always gives a boost to my productivity. I’ve been suffering from some back pain lately, but that doesn’t stop me from drawing, so. Speaking of productivity, I’ve finally updated the Cast Page! Everybody’s go shiny new updated artwork, and I’ve also added new profiles for Kate, Gene and Suzy! Feel free to check them out!

Site Update 17

Sheesh, no status reports since February? Time to fix that. Progress on Chapter 05 has, unfortunately, been coming along much more slowly than I’d anticipated. Part of it is admittedly procrastination (ugh, crowd scenes, why do I do this to myself) but I’ve also been doing script revisions, development for upcoming characters, restructuring my outlines and practicing some new art techniques. Inking in Clip Studio Paint is REALLY fun and I’ve been tempted to switch over to it entirely but I think I’m better off sticking with Photoshop until I’ve gotten the basics down. The character art on the cast page is looking pretty outdated. I’m gonna need to set aside some time to redrawing them. Also promotional art. When I’ve created my backlog I want to start promoting my webcomic more aggressively and try to expand my audience. Uuuugh. I hate doing this, I’m still hoping I can get my act together and get the next 2-3 chapters done by the end of spring, but I miiiiiiiiiight need to extend the length of the hiatus to fall. Nobody reads webcomics during the summer anyway. I hope my handful of readers can be understanding! If/when I ever do another webcomic I’m not gonna launch it until I’ve drawn at least 50 pages in advance. Anyway, that’s more-or-less what I’ve been up to lately.

Site Update 16

Been having some technical issues recently. I was getting an error message so I had to use FTP to delete Jetpack and then reinstall it so that I could get my site stats back. Everything seems to be in working order now. Progress on the upcoming chapters is coming along slowly but smoothly. I’ve got just a few pages of Chapter 05 left to pencil, then I can move on to inking and colouring. My script for Chapter 06 is in need of some fine-tuning before I move on to thumbnailing. I need to get some damn beta readers. As for the site, Wyrmaou has been added to the Kreature Archive, and I’ve uploaded some art to the main gallery.

Site Update 15

Chapter 05 has been coming along fairly well. I haven’t started inking or colouring it yet but I’ve got all the backgrounds laid out and I’ve pencilled a few pages. I bought myself a portable light pad for X-Mas; a Huion LB4. I’ve been printing off perspective grids and it’s been making backgrounds a hell of a lot easier to draw. I highly recommend one to all my fellow artistic luddites who still prefer the feeling of drawing on slabs of dead tree carcasses. As for Kreature Archive stuff, we got meta forms for Minithorn and Slimok: Medithorn/Megathorn, and Gunkag/Oozerm/Blobrog. These guys have been sitting in my backlog for a while now, I’ve been cutting back on the meta forms in favour of boosting the main count to 100.
